Death On The Tracks

This public memorial commemorates the death of a high school student Jack about 6 months ago, presumably at this railroad pedestrian crossing near where I live. I think these memorials represent a shift in public feeling about death because they mark the place of death while the traditional headstone marks the place of burial. I did not know Jack but this memorial shows that his death had a considerable impact on those that did know him. Notice also that the memorial has both religious and national symbols.
